Position: Director of Compliance
Location: Sacramento, CA 95826
Hours: Full Time, Exempt
Schedule: Hybrid Schedule
Compensation: $110,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Director of Compliance to lead our Compliance Department and ensure regulatory excellence across our affordable housing portfolio. This is a hybrid leadership role that combines strategic oversight, hands-on compliance management, and cross-department collaboration.
The Director of Compliance serves as a key member of the Property Operations Leadership Team and currently supervises one staff member, with potential oversight of lease-up and floating manager staff.

Responsibilities:
Compliance Monitoring & Oversight
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory agreements, program rules, and internal procedures across the portfolio.
- Monitor property operations, identify areas of risk, and develop corrective action plans.
- Conduct site visits, file audits, and oversee regulatory inspections from notification through close-out.
- Manage HUD processes including EIV, special claims, and related reporting.
- Oversee third-party compliance partners and ensure alignment with company standards.
Policy & Procedure Development
- Develop, update, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and the company Compliance Manual.
- Interpret and implement new and existing regulatory agreements.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare and submit required monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reports.
- Produce internal compliance monitoring reports and department updates.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies and external partners.
- Provide guidance and support to site teams and internal departments.
Training & Development
- Design and deliver compliance training for staff at all levels.
- Strengthen onboarding processes to ensure new hires understand compliance requirements.
Software & Systems Management
- Serve as a Yardi Affordable Administrator, ensuring accurate system setup and data integrity.
- Maintain income/rent limits, utility allowances, and compliance databases.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as the organization’s 504 Coordinator, managing reasonable accommodation requests.
- Provide leadership and oversight to the lease-up process.
- Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in Affordable Housing Regulatory Compliance, including HUD, LIHTC, USDA-RD, HOME, HCD, SHRA, or comparable programs.
- Yardi Affordable experience required.
- Strong knowledge of Fair Housing laws and compliance standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and develop compliance systems and staff.
- Preferred certifications: HCCP, SHCM, COS.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Must pass criminal background screening, including education verification and DMV check.
